Personal notes on our 4th day of fasting.
“and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,”
Ephesians 6:17 ESV
The word of God, His scriptures is the sword of the Spirit. The more we dig into reading, meditating and abiding into His words – the stronger our weapon is.
A great example of God’s word being used as the sword of the Spirit, is during the time of Jesus’ 40 days fast. The tempter came and tried to tempt Jesus, but he never win. Jesus knew what to say, exactly to shut down accusations, schemes and deceit of the enemy.
1. “And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:3-4 ESV
2. “and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, “‘He will command his angels concerning you,’ and “‘On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.'” Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.'””
Matthew 4:6-7 ESV
3. “Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.” Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.'”” Matthew 4:8-10 ESV
The 3 scenarios written in this chapter, clearly elaborated how satan tactics were. If we are not discerning and aware of God’s word, we will always fall into prey to his schemes.
The enemy of our soul is busy, trying to steal, the promises of God, to kill and destroy all that God has prepared for us. It only happens – when we are not aware.
Sometimes we hear statements in our thoughts accusing like “if you really are.. ” strong, faithful, loving etc.. Then…
We should be cautious and be prepared to take out our sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. If we didn’t invest time reading and understanding, studying and meditating His words day and night – what sword shall we take out. We will definitely lose the battle, cause even the enemy, knows the words of God.
How do we know if we are being attacked by the enemy?
According to Jim Lafoon – International Director of Every Nation Empowerment, there are three indicative marks that we should take note;
When something we are facing is stronger than the usual, it could be a sign of a spiritual warfare. Sometimes a spiritual warfare can come into a powerful wave, wherein, sometimes you just suddenly felt despair by a wave of depression – and it is out of proportion to anything you are facing in your life.
An unusual density that clouds and clings to our soul, can also be a mark of a spiritual warfare. Like a wall between man and God, or a wall between you and others.
Spiritual warfare tries to maximise our pains, our problems and struggles – minimising the promises of God’s word.
Now that we knew the signs of spiritual warfare, we can ask the Holy Spirit for discernment. We can ask the Holy Spirit to give us the word applicable to our situation and begin to fight by declaring God’s words over our situation.
